Deemed to be old and no longer fit for purpose, two buildings within the Mt Albert Campus required refurbishing. Light interior refurbishments were created to form new teaching and learning spaces, social and collaborative areas, multiple new computer labs and a staff office. The brief also required an increase in teaching space utilisation from 13% to 45% - the space had to be designed with teaching flexibility in mind.
Gaze delivered the spatial analysis that determined more of an open plan layout was needed, allocating the top floor of both buildings for staff use and the lower two for students, to ensure efficient space utilisation. Interior walls were demolished to increase the internal footprint. Design and product specification selection was important to satisfy the acoustic requirements.
Gaze delivered this project within a critical time frame delivering a tight but achievable window for construction.
