MIT (Manukau Institute of Technology) is a tertiary institute in New Zealand that offers a wide range of student courses.
The Nursing faculty was to relocate from the Otara campus to Manukau and create a modern and future-proof learning environment. The brief was to optimise the space and house all the necessary capabilities required to provide students with a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience.
In addition to conventional laboratories, Gaze designed simulation training facilities fitted with the latest technologies and equipment that resemble a live medical environment. Clinical learning suites were either set up as permanent hospital wards, complete with beds, equipment plugins, gases and curtains or; as simple environments that can be changed to simulate different locations. Some features that were incorporated into the fit out include; individual hospital rooms, safety showers, assessment and interview rooms for one-on-one counselling. Gaze designed all joinery to meet faculty standards, considering cleaning, safety, security, and storage requirements.
